The process, made simple

You’ve already got enough to think about. The photography shouldn’t be one of them. From your first enquiry to receiving your finished photographs, I keep the whole process relaxed, straightforward, and – dare I say it – actually enjoyable.

Relaxed from start to finish.

Choosing a wedding photographer isn’t just about liking someone’s portfolio. You need to actually like the person – because they’ll be with you (fine, stalking you) for most of the biggest day of your life.

I’ve been doing this since 2013, and one thing I’ve learned is that the couples who have the best experience are the ones who feel relaxed and comfortable from the very first conversation. Not just on the wedding day itself – but throughout the whole process leading up to it.

So that’s exactly what I try to create. No faff, no confusing packages, no hard sell, and no disappearing act after you’ve paid the deposit. From your first enquiry through to receiving your finished gallery, I’m here, I’m approachable, and I genuinely care about getting it right for you.

I’m always happy to help during the planning stages too – whether that’s advice on timings, suggestions for locations, or just answering whatever questions crop up along the way. You’re not just hiring a photographer. You’re bringing someone into your day, and I never take that lightly.

Here’s how the whole process works, from first hello to final gallery.

01.

Say hello

The first step is simply getting in touch to check availability and tell me a little about your plans.

If I’m free on your date, we’ll arrange a relaxed Zoom chat – a proper chance to say hello, talk through the day, and see if we’re a good fit. No hard sell, no interrogation. Just a friendly conversation over a coffee (or something stronger, depending on the week).

It’s your chance to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether I’m the right photographer for you. Choosing someone to document one of the biggest days of your life is a pretty personal decision – and I think it should feel that way.

02.

Let’s chat about your plans

This is where we get to know each other properly.

I’ll ask about your wedding plans, what you’re most looking forward to, and the kind of atmosphere you’re hoping to create. The more I understand what matters to you, the better I can capture it in a way that feels natural and true to the day.

It’s also your chance to ask me anything – how I work, how the day usually flows, advice on timings, or anything else that’s been rattling around in your head during the planning process.

These calls are relaxed and informal. More like a conversation between three people who are going to spend a pretty important day together – which, let’s face it, is exactly what it is.

03.

Secure your date

If we both feel like we’re a good fit – and I hope we are – the next step is making things official.

I’ll send over a straightforward digital contract and booking invoice. Once the booking fee is paid and the contract is signed, your date is secured in my diary and the fun part begins.

From that point on, your photography is sorted. I’ll confirm everything with you and send over a welcome guide covering everything you need to know – from planning the day through to what happens after the wedding when your gallery is ready.

No complicated paperwork. No confusing small print. Just a clear agreement so we can both get on with looking forward to your wedding.

04.

Here if you need me!

Booking me doesn’t mean you won’t hear from me again until I turn up on the morning with my camera bag.

I’m always just an email away – whether it’s help with timings, ideas for portrait locations, or just running something past me as your plans come together. No question is too small, and there’s no such thing as bothering me.

Think of me as part of your wedding team. After photographing weddings since 2013, there’s a good chance I’ve encountered whatever’s cropped up before – and I’m always happy to point you in the right direction.

The goal is simple: by the time your wedding day arrives, everything feels relaxed, nothing feels uncertain, and you can just get on with enjoying it.

05.

Planning the day

Around four weeks before the wedding, I’ll send over a short questionnaire to pull together the key details — locations, timings, contact numbers, and the general shape of the day.

Once that’s done, we’ll jump on a final Zoom call to run through everything together. It’s a chance to confirm the timeline, make sure nothing’s been missed, and answer any last questions that have been quietly nagging at you during the planning process.

By the time we finish that call, everything is locked in, nothing is left to chance, and you can head into your wedding week feeling genuinely ready to enjoy it — rather than still mentally running through a checklist at midnight.

06.

The wedding day

This is what all the planning has been building towards – and by this point, you won’t need to think about the photography at all.

On the day itself, I blend into the background as everything unfolds. I’ll chat with your guests, help everyone feel at ease, and most of the time you’ll forget the camera is even there. Which, as I may have mentioned once or twice, is exactly when the best moments happen.

When a bit of guidance helps – particularly during portraits – I’ll step in gently. Nothing forced, nothing awkward, nothing that pulls you out of the moment for longer than it needs to.

The aim is always the same: to capture the story of your day honestly, through photographs that feel natural, relaxed, and full of life.

Your gallery arrives!

Around four to six weeks after your wedding, you’ll receive your online gallery — filled with everything from the quiet glances and emotional hugs to whatever chaos unfolded on the dancefloor later in the evening.

This is the moment most couples tell me they didn’t expect. You’ll spot things you never even knew were happening – a look, a laugh, a moment between two people in the background that somehow says everything.

All images are delivered in high resolution, ready to download and share with family and friends. And if you want something more tangible to hold onto, you’ll also have the option to order prints or a bespoke album.

This is where the story of your day comes together – not just as photographs, but as something you’ll return to for the rest of your lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with me, and then some

Why should I hire you to be my wedding photographer?

Choosing your wedding photographer is as much about connection as it is about craft. You deserve someone who not only creates beautiful, emotive imagery—but someone you genuinely enjoy having by your side on the most meaningful day of your life. My portfolio is here to show you the quality of my work. The heartfelt words from past couples will show you what it’s like to work together. With every wedding, I bring a calm presence, thoughtful attention, and a seamless experience from beginning to end.

How long will you attend our wedding for? Will you disappear after the ceremony?

All of my wedding photography collections include full-day coverage—because some of the most unforgettable moments happen long after the cake has been cut. From the early morning preparations to the final dance, I’ll be there to document it all. I don’t clock-watch, and I never leave just as the magic begins. If the dance floor is alive and the energy’s electric, I’ll be right there capturing every moment with heart and precision.

My Uncle Bob has a nice shiny new camera. Why shouldn’t I hire him and save some money?

No disrespect to your Uncle Bob, but can he:

  • Take a sharp photograph in low light or when it’s pouring down?
  • Can he organise large (sometimes tipsy…!) groups of people?
  • Does he have total control of his camera so he’s ready to capture that special moment as and when it happens, not fifteen seconds later when he’s found the correct button and the moment has passed forever?
  • How will Uncle Bob fare after he’s had three pints of Fosters and a sneaky glass of Lambrini..?
  • Does Uncle Bob have insurance in case something goes wrong (heaven forbid) on the day? Does he have a backup camera in case his equipment / batteries / memory cards fail (again, heaven forbid, but he needs to be prepared for all eventualities).
  • Also, has he photographed a wedding from start to finish before?
Are there any hidden costs you’re not telling me about?

Transparency is everything. What you see is exactly what you get—no surprises, no hidden extras. I believe in clear, honest communication from the outset, and I’m always happy to walk you through my pricing and collections in more detail. Let’s meet for a relaxed chat (and perhaps a slice of cake) to explore what feels right for you.

How long will I have to wait after the wedding before I see my photographs?

A few days after your wedding, you’ll receive a beautiful sneak peek—a small handful of highlights to relive those first moments while the rest of your gallery is being curated. The full collection is typically delivered within 4–6 weeks (up to 6–8 during peak season), carefully edited with the same care I brought to your wedding day. If you’ve chosen a bespoke album, that process is a little more intricate and may take a few additional weeks, but the end result is a timeless heirloom you’ll treasure forever.

Will we get to meet before the wedding?

Absolutely—we’ll have plenty of time to connect before your big day. From our initial phone or Zoom consultation, I’ll be available to answer your questions, talk through ideas, and ensure we’re the right fit. A few months before the wedding, we’ll meet in person (over coffee and cake, naturally) to discuss the finer details, timelines, and anything you’d like guidance on. I don’t just want to be your photographer—I want to feel like a trusted part of your team.

I hate posing for pictures! Will you make me pose?

In short—absolutely not. My style is quietly observant, allowing the day to flow naturally while I capture the genuine moments that matter most. I won’t be pulling you away for endless posed photos or interrupting the rhythm of your celebration. Most couples tell me they barely noticed I was there—and that’s exactly how it should be.

That said, if the light is just right or your venue offers something breathtaking, I may gently suggest stepping aside for a few relaxed portraits. These moments never feel staged or time-consuming—we’ll create something timeless together in no more than ten minutes, I promise.

What style of photography do you offer?

My approach is rooted in a natural, candid, and documentary style. I capture the day as it unfolds—with elegance, discretion, and a keen eye for real moments. There’s no need for awkward posing or staged smiles. Instead, I blend into the background, allowing you and your loved ones to enjoy every moment uninterrupted, while I quietly preserve the laughter, the emotion, and the in-between magic that make your wedding truly yours.

What happens if it rains on the day of the wedding?

When you hire a professional wedding photographer (such as myself), you’re hiring someone who’s well versed in capturing amazing photos in all types of conditions. So whether I’m photographing in blazing sunshine or torrential rain, rest assured your photos will be fantastic (rain actually offers some ace creative opportunities, so it’s definitely not all bad when the heavens open!)

I also visit the venue well in advance of your wedding to look at suitable locations for photographs, and this includes inside the venue as well as out. So if the weather isn’t so great you can rest assured that we’ll capture some gorgeous memories together.

I’m sold! How can I hire you?

Woah, easy tiger! Either give me a call on 07552 808289 (leave a message if there’s no answer, I’m usually out and about somewhere), email me at dan[at]howhighthemoon.uk, or fill out my contact form.

Can’t wait to hear from you!
